Visitation Rites, in partnership with resident video artist Samantha Cornwell, is proud to announce an ongoing series of original music videos that will make their debut on this site. The project kicked off earlier this week with a video Cornwell directed for the Lame Drivers’ song “Demonzblood.” We are hoping to make this project a regular part of the site, and are looking for bands and musicians to participate.
If you are interested in having a video made from your music, get in touch with us at vrvideo [at] gmail [dot] com. We ask, however, that you observe the following guidelines when submitting:
1. While we are fairly open when it comes to genre, the music that is submitted should be along the lines of what it generally covered on Visitation Rites. One of the overall missions of Visitation Rites is to track emerging forms of 21st century Psychedelia. This can include everything from weird folk to noise rock, stoner doom metal, dark wave, tape collage, lo-fi indie rock, furturist synth-pop, experimental minimalism, and “nu age” music, among other things. If you feel that your music fits this distinction, or has an aesthetic kinship with it, you are encouraged to submit.
2. We prefer that submitted songs be no more than 5 minutes long. While exceptions can be made in certain cases, it is more likely that you will be selected if you follow this guideline.
3. Songs must be initially submitted through links, as opposed to attachments. Links to your band’s MySpace page or website will work for this. Later on, if your music is selected, we will ask you to send a copy of the song as an attachment,
4. From the outset, you must be willing to give the video artist a good deal of artistic license with the project. While you will get approval of the concept and a chance to make suggestions after the 1st cut of the video is complete, remember that the video artist maintains a certain amount of creative control as the director and editor. The video artist will keep you up to date on the progress of the project to make sure everyone is on the same page.
5. Last, but certainly not least, remember that once you have submitted your music to this project, and have been selected, you are giving Visitation Rites and Samantha Cornwell the right to use the song in question for the purposes of this video. We will not use your music for any additional purposes without your permission. Once the video is complete, and has been posted on Visitation Rites, you are free to re-post anywhere you want for promotional purposes.
This could be a great opportunity to have your music heard by a broader audience, and to participate in an exciting collaborative process.
We look forward to hearing your submissions.
