An Introduction by the Artist:
“The song “Demondzblood” falls in line with a long history of infectuous guitar-based music by Brooklyn-based three-piece, The Lame Drivers. To give you the full disclosure, I have had the pleasure of knowing these guys for 5+ years, since their original incarnation in Providence, RI. They have always had an ability to evoke their influences, while maintaining an organic energy in their songs that makes them a pleasure to listen to.
Soon after I set out to create a series of original music videos for Visitation Rites, I approached Jason Sigal (guitar/vox) about possibly making a video for the Lame Drivers. When he played me the song “Demondzblood,” I was very excited to make a video for the track. In my opinion, it is some of their best work to date. The wailing guitars and noisy production values immediately evoked images in my mind of psychedelic cult cinema from the ’60s and ’70s. I wanted to do something that brought to mind the darker side of Psychedelia.
Allejandro Jodorowsky was my original influence, but as the project developed I feel that there are also hints of Mario Bava, as well as cult classics such as “Psychomania” and “Beyond The Valley of the Dolls.” However, unlike those films, I wanted to evoke something more than just pure camp. To develop the project, I gathered together a group of four very talented women (a coven, if you will) with whom i convened to develop full characters, animalistic body movements, and power dynamics. These elements, combined with the driving force of the Lame Drivers’ music, brought into fruition the video you see here today. Enjoy it, and stay tuned for more music videos making their debut on Visitation Rites.
