Cornwell on Cornwell (On Magic Treason):
“Elliot Sharp is a music writer. He is the founder of the blog Biomusicosophy, and has been a reader and supporter of Visitation Rites for some time. After we announced the music video project, he submitted the song “Lupton Pittman” from his solo project, Magic Treason. I must confess that I was a little nervous at first, considering how much support he has shown Visitation Rites, and how awful I would feel if I didn’t respond well to the music. As soon as I gave the song a play, however, I knew this wouldn’t be an issue at all.
“Lupton Pittman” (named after a character in Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break) is just the sort of magical surf-infused track that speaks to my current California state of mind. The echoey recording quality makes me feel as though it was recorded in a magical kingdom under the sea. This is why I felt it was appropriate to do a take on The Little Mermaid story for this video. Our heroine is a Princess from the magical underwater kingdom where I imagine that “Lupton Pittman” was number one on the pop charts. Due to growing pains and full-fledged adolescence, she made a wish to leave her home and start a new life on the land. When she got there, she felt isolated and displaced, and longed to go back to the Sea. For me, the music conjures up a strong feeling of celebratory nostalgia, coupled with a sense of longing. This video focuses on the joy that the character finds in nostalgia, ultimately returning to her roots.
Sit back, relax, and spend some time in this blue world.”

Simple, perfectly executed concept. The artist was new to me and I really dug the tune.
