Robert Millis is a musician and filmmaker based in Seattle, most widely known as one half of the long-running, free-thinking experimental duo Climax Golden Twins with Jeffrey Taylor. That group’s association with fellow Seattle mind-expanders the brothers Bishop (Richard and Alan, of the sadly departed Sun City Girls) has intersected with Millis’ career as a documentary filmmaker. In 2005’s Ghost of Isan, Millis documented the Thai festival Phi Ta Khon with help from Richard Bishop. His latest film, This World Is Unreal Like a Snake in a Rope, was shot entirely in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, capturing musical performances, festivals, street processions, and snatches of all aspects of life. Millis is currently on tour with both films, granting the rare opportunity to experience them on the big screen with an appreciative audience. The film is presented by Alan Bishop and Hisham Mayet’s renowned Sublime Frequencies label.
