Although I often associate Portland’s White Rainbow, with up tempo, experimental machine music, his latest Bandcamp drop, the From Now On Let’s mix tape, shows a wide range of electronic aesthetics. The appropriately named “Low Ride on Moon Boulevard” tones down the copy room beats, and mines a minimal rhythmic territory. The breathy, deep vocal sample, and the somber synth tones evoke a darker shade of house music, or Knight Rider. As with many contemporary producers, it is clear that the dark and sultry sounds of Sade are a big influence. It is possible that you might want to clap along, but be prepared to do it slowly.
